Barbara Bixby studied at FIT (The Fashion Institute of Technology) in New York City at the precocious age of 16. She began studying sculpture and played with other art forms that would lead to her eventual passion, a career in jewelry design. Her passion for artwork is an extremely personal and passionate one. Bixby’s fine jewelry pieces reach widely acclaimed design houses such as Spearling Jewelers where individual clients seek unique “one of a kind” pieces. Barbara Bixby influences and inspirations spring from a variety of sources. These sources include her travels through Asia and Europe as well as those closer to home such as her personal surroundings including the garden, the antiques she has collected and the country setting of her home.

Each of her pieces represents jewelry from beyond the surface and has a symbolic meaning that stem from the inspiration created her immediate surroundings. Her collections include a variety of themes such as her popular key collection entitled ‘Keys of life’. Other collections include her ‘Vine’, ‘Peacock’, and ‘Mahal’ lines, which make up four of her eleven collections. Intensely modern her work is best suited to modern design houses and appeals to the modern women that make up her client base.
