In 1960 in the Swiss village of Sonvillier, Louis-Ulysse Chopard established the Chopard brand. Later migrating to a more metropolitan location, his son Paul Louis Chopard brought the company to La Chaux-de-Fonds, where the company and its headquarters were then relocated. At this point fine watch making was at the forefront of the company’s design practices.

In 1963 the company was sold to Karl Scheufele after the Chopard family descendants were no longer interested in taking over the company. Scheufele came from generations of individuals in the fine watch making industry.

The new ownership was able to pick up where the Chopard family left off and continue to create pieces of the same caliber. Chopard has always been known for its excellent craftsmanship and the state-of-the-art-technology it uses in its products. Chopard products have been sought after in many parts of the Western world ever since the company’s expansion. Colin Firth wore a Chopard watch to the 2011 Oscar Awards. Other celebrities Kate Beckinsale and Penelope Cruz were seen wearing earrings.

Today the extensive collections of the polished brand includes the Ladies Collection, the classic looking L.U.C. collection, the sporty, Classic Racing collection and the High Jewelry collection which is comprised of a number of timeless pieces featuring diamonds, emeralds, gold silver pearls and fine leather trims on watches. In more recent years the Elton John collection has been added to the company ‘s repertoire in celebration of the ten years of support that Chopard has given to the Elton John AIDS foundation.

In 2010 Chopard released a book, in commemoration of its 150th Anniversary. The book entitled La Passion de l’Excellence (the passion of excellence) includes an array of stunning photographs, which embrace the creations that have emerged since the company’s founding in 1860.
