Second DTCB Sightholder Opening Jewelry Plant in Botswana

Suashish Diamonds, an Indian diamond polishing and retail company, is opening a jewelry manufacturing plant in Botswana, the Mmegi.bw new site reports.
Last week, Diamond Hub Coordinator Jacob Thamage announced the company's plans to manufacture jewelry in Botswana, making it the second Diamond Trading Company of Botswana sightholder with plans to open a local jewelry plant.
Suashish Diamonds is a vertically integrated company, manufacturing diamonds, diamond jewelry, and selling the finished jewelry products. The firm as 50 years of experience and can produce as many as 1.2 million pieces of jewelry per year.
The decision by Suashish Diamonds to open a factory in Botswana comes as another company, Shrenuj Botswana, is poised to open a $4.55 million factory in Gaborone in April.
According to Thamage, the Shrenuj plant will employ 75 workers when it opens its doors and will produce $4 million worth of jewelry annually. The company is seeking to sell its jewelry through tourist sites in Botswana as well as exporting to South Africa and the US.
